Michael

Breaking a sweat is no sweat for Michael.

Since beginning his job at Kerkau Manufacturing this past January, everything has been on the up and moving fast. Having been working with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) since he graduated at Bay City Western High in 2022, they gave him an opportunity to utilize Do-All, Inc.'s Job Placement services utilizing their IPS program.

Michael was very quiet at first, but focused on jobs he preferred with manufacturing at the top of his job target. After a few meetings, he was interested in following a working path similar to that of his father’s and wanted to apply at Kerkau Manufacturing.

Serendipitously, they happened to be hiring and gave Michael a call back.

“Do All helped me get motivated and talking more with people,” smiled Michael. When he was interviewed initially at Kerkau and found out he was chosen for the job, he was elated. “My dad worked here too.”

With a background in working on machine lines from the Career Center while in High School, his Manager Chase said at the interview, “You have more qualifications coming here than I did when I first came.”

“That was a good feeling,” laughed Michael.

A man of few words, he could not stop smiling when reminded how well he started out on the paint line. He eventually hit his 30-day review, moving towards working the manufacturing machines at Kerkau.

“I bought a boat and now possibly will be getting a car.”

Getting his Forklift Certification at 60-days was another highlight, but his recent 90-day review was to confirm him a place with a machine on the line, as soon as they can secure more workers on the paint line.

“It will probably happen in a month or two,” said Michael. “I’ve been training one (person) that got moved over here. He was on a machine. Looks like we might switch places.”

Michael said that he has enjoyed the process of developing his comfort zone around others and speaking up more, since he has been with Do-All, Inc. and MRS. Will he have his future at Kerkau?

“Possibly, yeah,” he smiled.
