Jeff

“Perseverance is a very important quality to cultivate for success in today’s world. Being able to persevere through issues in your life makes you fulfilled and, in my opinion, a better person in the long run”.

Jeff has goals of continuing his education, which will take funding. He would like to find a part time job in an office setting or some other area where he can utilize his writing and interpersonal skills. Here are a couple examples of how Jeff has been able to persevere – in his own words.

“I was born with a condition called severe spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy (CP for short), affecting my fine motor skills and muscle tone. An example is typing words; I must make my fingers function by hunting and pecking while I think of the words I am typing.

As a young man attending college, doctors determined it necessary to have Harrington rods put in alongside my spine from my neck to my hips to prevent further curvature. The recovery time for discharge would be a few days for a person with normal body functions, but it took me a week and a half in the hospital to recover enough to go home. Then I spent several weeks recovering in bed. I made arrangements with my instructors to get all the assignments I was going to miss ahead of time. Though I missed 4 weeks of the semester I did not fall behind in any of my classes and was able to complete the semester on time.”

No matter the circumstances, Jeff has remained dedicated to achieving his goals. He continues to seek employment opportunities with the assistance of his Job Development Specialist.
